Virtual Colonoscopy Screening

| Suburban Imaging

March is colon cancer awareness month. Speak with your healthcare provider about scheduling a Virtual Colonoscopy Screening at Suburban Imaging - Southdale.

Excluding skin cancers, colorectal cancer is the third most common cancer diagnosed in both men and women in the United States. The American Cancer Society estimates the number of new colorectal cancer cases in the United States for 2018 to be 97,220.

Virtual Colonoscopy is a CT technique used in detecting cancer and polyps in the colon (large intestine). High-resolution, three-dimensional images of the colon are obtained, allowing a board certified radiologist (physician) to evaluate the entire length of the colon. The radiologist also evaluates the surrounding organs for abnormalities.

Virtual Colonoscopy is a far less invasive alternative to conventional endoscopic colonoscopy. Using state-of-the-art imaging, radiologists are able to detect polyps without subjecting you to the risks, pain and inconvenience associated with conventional colonoscopy.

Virtual Colonoscopy screening is not appropriate for everyone and should be discussed with your primary healthcare provider. Both men and women are encouraged to have a Virtual Colonoscopy screening if they meet the following screening criteria:

  • 50 years of age or older
  • Individuals who are at average or moderate risk* for developing colon cancer
