Pre-Surgical Testing

What is Neurovascular Pre-Surgical Testing?

Neuroendovascular pre-operative testing encompasses a wide variety of procedures that are relied upon by our surgical colleagues to assist with diagnosis and treatment planning. Wada testing involves injecting a medication to evaluate brain function prior to surgery - often for patients with seizures. Balloon test occlusion helps the multidisciplinary team know if it is safe to close a blood vessel for treatment of tumors or brain aneurysms. Lastly, inferior petrosal sinus sampling is a test that helps identify and localize a pituitary adenoma. We work closely with our neurosurgical colleagues that perform open surgical procedures to ensure that they have the most current and accurate information possible.
